Did you know there is a way to understand yourself and the people around you that is more than 2,000 years old and yet little used today?
In this weekend workshop we aim to help you identify and understand your temperamant. Whether you are predominantly sanguine, melancholic, phlegmatic or choleric can have a major influence on your approach to life and your health.
It can help you to understand your relationships better and why some people are just so difficult for you to get on with!
Understanding the patterns of physical, emotional and mental health of these four basic temperaments can help you to see your strengths and weaknesses, both physical and mental. If you are a health practitioner, knowledge of the temperaments can help you determine the types of illnesses your patients may encounter. We'll be showing you some diets, foods and herbs that will support these four basic types.
Up until the middle of the last century it was common for people to have a knowledge of the temperaments. Shakespeare's plays, for instance, are full of allusions to the sanguine, melancholic, phlegmatic and choleric. There were even clues given to the audience in his plays to show which temperament the characters were - books were a sign for a melancholic! Doctors used the temperaments and humoral medicine to help them make diagnosis and treatment.
With the advent of the germ theory however, humoral medicine, the medicine of Hippocrates, was largely laid to rest, at least in the West ......
Luckily for us it survived in a complete form in the Islamic World. TIBB medicine, as it is known, is a truly holistic system of medicine which treats the whole person through the identification of the temperament and constitution. One of our speakers, Salim Khan, has 30 years experience of using the tempermants in his pratice. As well as explaining the temperaments, Salim will explain how they fit into the TIBB system of medicine.
There was another way it survived too. Through the theories of Jung, Myers-Briggs and other psychologists, the temperaments were re-interpreted for the modern age. Today some large companies use this ancient system to place their employees in the workforce.
During the course of the weekend we'll be looking at what kind of jobs fit particular temperaments and how we can best express ourselves through our work.
Salim Khan has developed a range of tonics and superfoods based on ancient recipes. more...
